ABOUT THE BUTTERFLY HABITAT
THE BUTTERFLY ENCLOSURE IS STILL BEING DEVELOPED, SO IS NOT CURRENTLY STOCKED WITH BUTTERFLIES, AS WE CONTINUE TO LANDSCAPE THE BOTANICAL GARDENS. the STRUCTURE IS A HUGE SPACE SPANNING 25×35 meterS. visitors can NOW climb three hand-carved treehouse platforms. Each platform REPRESENTS A LAYER OF THE canopy from pioneer to secondary to primary forest. DIFFERENT BUTTERFLIES LIVE AT DIFFERENT HEIGHTS OF THE CANOPY, so the structures WILL GIVE visitor an opportunity to encounter species that are difficult or impossible to view from the forest floor. THERE ARE ALMOST ALWAYS live caged exhibit of the stages of the butterfly life cycle, AND DENSE POPULATIONS OF BUTTERFLIES OUTSIDE OF THE HABITAT, MAKING AN excellent settings for photographers to capture rarely seen and difficult to photograph subjects.
ABOUT THE BOTANICAL GARDENS
Inside the butterfly habitat and around the picnic tables, classroom, and tropical rainforest trails, visitors will find an extensive collection of PLANTS including heliconias, passifloras, orchids, medicinal plants, and many familiar tropical fruit favorites, like banana, cacao, pineapple, and papaya. WE HOPE THE experience leadS to a greater appreciation of our food, especially tropical fruit and the effort to deliver it ripe and fresh to destinations thousands of miles away. These productive and healthy plants offer habitat and food sources that attract daily visits by butterflies, macaws, toucans, monkeys, and other wildlife. OSA INTERACTIVE GARDENS IS a biological corridor in the Osa Peninsula (one of the most biodiverse places on Earth). Over 130 bird species have been recorded on OUR site and FOUR species of monkeys PASS REGULARLY.
